Description
Use techniques to colour metals, create a panel with simple, bold lines and use machine stitching on soluble fabric. Enhance this with beads and other embellishments before dissolving the fabric away to reveal a rich surface combining thread, beads and the shine of a metallic surface. We will explore a selection of interesting hand stitches and wires for the detailing.
Your design inspiration could be taken from patterns you are working on or have used before. The technique is especially suited to images of water, bark, close-up plant patterns and forms, or patterns from embroidery designs.
It would be a great time to develop or perfect your free machining techniques. If you are a hand stitcher, don’t despair – the workshop can be taken without a sewing machine, though you will make a smaller piece using faggoting, other linking stitches or adding a background fabric to support the metal.
