News from the Granary, new classes

Lynn has two courses starting shortly, with some spaces still left on each..
Slow Stitching starts on Thursday 21st April for six weeks
‘During this course we will indulge ourselves with hand stitching. Throughout the course we will be experimenting with different threads, fabrics and stitches to create pages for a hand stitched book. There will also be a series of sewing related projects, needle case, pin cushion, scissor case etc. which you can complete at your leisure. Give them as gifts to your sewing friends or save them for yourself. Just come along and enjoy the pleasure of creating something by hand.’
and Modern Quilting starts on Thursday 2nd June for six weeks
‘An introduction to modern quilting and patchwork. Bold colours and simple backgrounds make stunning modern quilts. Lynn will introduce you to the different techniques used in patchwork, applique and quilting’

A new 6 week block of Melanie’s Life drawing will be starting on April 7th. This session is now full but if you are interested in life drawing please let us know, as I keep a list of people interested in joining future classes… Watch this space for some other drawing and painting classes from Melanie in the near future. Susan is now collecting names for the next group of prospective students who wish to attend the Procion and Process classes, one group will run from October ’16 on the first Saturday in the month and the second will run from Feb ’17 on the first Sunday in the month. Also the next Independent Study group will run on the first Friday in the month from Feb ’17.

Kim Thittichai is coming to teach at the Granary in June 2017. She will be teaching two workshops.

Create wonderful surfaces to stitch – or not!
Sat/Sun 10/11 June ’17 Transforming Transfers Explore the possibilities of transfer paints and crayons, creating startling colours on synthetics and more subtle effects on naturals. We will try resists, overprinting, layering and various ways of applying paint and crayons. Build a portfolio of delicious samples on an amazing array of fabrics.

Busy times at The Granary Studio

The tutor is having some fun too!

There is a new second group of students now learning on the Procion and Process course. I will take names and details of anyone wanting to attend  this or any other course, and, when I have enough people interested, I will start a new group… currently there is a Saturday group who have completed 4 of the ten sessions, and a Sunday group who have just completed their first session. They attend one day a month spread over a year.

Olive from the Saturday group is learning about using Thermofax screens and scraping backgrounds in the fourth class

        Life Drawing isn’t always just about paper and charcoal, here Irene is stitching on the machine direct from the life model

Busy preparing the Spring Classes Programme

I am busy preparing the spring programme at the Granary Studio… it will go up on the site soon but a little advance information… Caroline Bell is offering a spring eco printing course which will be two days , 19 and 26 April and also a masterclass for those with previous experience on 21 and 22 May, the full information will be up on the site as soon as possible. Also Mel Rose is offering three more 6 week courses for life drawing 25 Jan-7 March and 11 April-16 May and 6 June-11July, again full description will be detailed soon. Lynn Onions is also offering a variety of stitch courses in the Spring, details will follow soon.. I am also working on some specialist dayschools on various aspects of printmaking… Lynn and I are also planning a summer school for July .. exciting times…

Meanwhile I shall be working on the Artist in Action stand for Art Van Go at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate this weekend … do stop by and say hello

 

 

Open Studios at the Granary

We are having lots of fun this week at the Granary Studio. It is open studios and we have had lots of lovely visitors .. A new exhibiting group called Room 6, who are loosely connected with the Eastleigh College degree I used to run, have their work here. There is lots of tea and coffee being drunk and cake eaten.

I am in the studio printing the panels for the Romsey Abbey exhibition in October, Caroline is eco-printing in the gazebo outside, lynn and Consuelo are stitching and wrapping, so, there is lots to see and people to talk to…

The teaching space is on show and hopefully people will sign up for some of our Autumn classes

There are a couple of spaces on the early session of Life Drawing starting wed 2nd September, more information on the ‘courses’ button here at this site…. I wold love to fill them because Melanie Rose is our visiting life drawing tutor and she is brilliant … dont worry if you have never done it before, she wil lead you through, so please do give it a try
