2 days…..Tues&Wed 12&13 April 2022 10.00-16.00
Expect a creative experience in this exciting two days. Our inspiration will be gardens, and the wonderful haphazard effect of herbaceous borders in bloom. Kate will guide you through a range of processes including block printing, stencil cutting, sponging and other mark making to build up a rich background. On top of this, you will then add raw-edge fabric pieces cut into flower and leaf shapes to really bring your wild garden picture to life, finishing with free motion embroidery and embellishment by hand.
Day one will start with looking at flower inspiration from photos. Backgrounds can be chosen from a variety of hand dyed fabrics. Freezer paper stencils will be made possibly from real leaves and leaf shapes stencilled onto fabric. Wooden stamps will also be used. Flowers will be cut from bonded fabric and ironed them down as raw edge appliqué. Day two will allow more in depth work on adding fabric collage and stitching. The composition can then be finished with hand or machine sewing as preferred. We will make a design approximately 40cm square.
