Description: Students will develop knowledge and confidence in dressmaking through:
– Learning how to use a sewing machine
– Taking personal measurements and learning how to adapt a pattern to fit
– Learning how to choose suitable fabrics for fashion styles
– Approaching the process of cutting out and assembling garments in a systematic way
– Sampling seams, hems, buttonholes and zips for a professional finish
– Compiling a file of samples and information
– Learning how to use equipment in the workroom safely and with due consideration for others
– Using the creative process to develop personal ideas
– Making a skirt and easy fitting top
– Gaining an understanding of how to use materials, tools and equipment effectively and safely

Experience level: For complete beginners and those wishing to develop very basic skills and have a passion for dressmaking

Class fees: £170, a deposit of £90 will secure your place, with the balance to be paid when the course begins

Class size: 5 maximum

Dates: The course runs for ten weeks,  12 Nov-10 Dec 2015 and 7 Jan-4 Feb 2016   14.00-17.00

Resources: For the first class please bring

Sewing kit – including fabric scissors (large and small), tape measure, pins and neutral coloured threads. The tutor will provide materials for the first class at a small cost. A4 file with pen and paper.
