Junk Journals Description
Junk journals are enormous fun and can serve a whole myriad of functions; they can be used as diaries or a way to record a journey or event, they can serve as a repository for keepsakes or used instead of a sketchbook to record inspiration to name a few. In short, a junk journal is for everyone and is an artefact that is intensely personal to its maker/user. There are no rules and very few skills are required.
This workshop is an opportunity to learn the basics of construction – we will put together 2 different basic forms – a sewn journal and a no sew journal. Part of this will involve making some decorative papers and elements to include in your journal. The rest of the workshop will be centred around how to work into the journals after they have been constructed, the use of prompts and cues so that you can keep your journal going after you go home.

Requirements for Junk Journals class
Some of these items will be available in the workshop but in order to make your journal personal I would suggest you collect;
Any papers that catch your eye from old book pages, manuscript paper, nice wrapping paper, even paper doilies, envelopes, paper bags
You will need some plain paper think approx. 15 a4 sheets from cartridge paper, the brown paper from Amazon parcels, khadi paper, watercolour paper whatever you can lay your hands on. I suggest in the spirit of junk journalling don’t buy just bring what you have – there will be more available on the day
A couple of empty cereal boxes
Any ephemera you might have – old stamps, tickets, photos, receipts anything that catches your eye. There is a lot of ready-made ephemera on the market – if you like that then that is fine.
Also bring any art materials you like to use a lot – sharpies, watercolours, white gel pen, pencil crayons – as an example I am very fond of my set of sepia Pitt artists pens
A couple of pritt glue sticks. Note- I keep buying generic glue sticks and they are not as good
A sharp craft knife.
If you happen to posses a portable paper cutter bring it
An apron is recommended as part of this workshop will be messy
don’t forget your lunch as there is no shop in the village
