A Little Book of Leaves

Using traditional hand stitch techniques and extreme contrasts of neutral cloth and thread we will explore running stitch, cutwork, layering, applique and inlay using leaves and other natural forms as a means to inspire and produce a personal cloth book.

You will require:

A piece of silk organza in white or cream 80cm x 60 cm

Pieces of neutral cloth approx.. 20cm x 30cm which should include some of the following qualities;

Silk crepeline, organza, habotai, silk tulle,

sateen, wool, dupion…………. anything you have.

Different qualities of white/neutral thread;

(I bring 15 different types of thread for you to use at no charge.)

I will bring small quantities to purchase of the above qualities or you may wish to buy a kit at £15 per student, which includes all the cloth you will need including the larger piece of organza, 7 pieces of different 20 x 30 cloth.

A small tambour frame if you like to work on one.

Small embroidery scissors.

Needles, pins, notebook.

A water or air erasable pen for cloth.

A small bag of found white fragments of cloth if you wish to make your work more personal such as lace, damask, hankies etc.
