Piano Hinge Books: A Sculptural Bookbinding Workshop Learn how to create a distinctive “piano hinge” or stick-bound book — a playful, flexible structure that opens beautifully and becomes a piece of art in its own right. We’ll build covers using richly textured handmade papers, layering and shaping them for a tactile, expressive finish. Then we’ll construct the spine using kebab sticks threaded through folded sections to form the signature hinge. This simple but clever binding allows you to make books that are bold, sturdy and endlessly adaptable. By the end of the workshop you’ll have made your own unique artist’s book and gained the skills to create more at home. The simple but ingenious spine structure is adaptable to develop into a sculptural piece and is an introduction to non-traditional bookbinding.y adaptable.
