Sequential TapestryWeaving  Description

This course is based on the interpretation of marks in textile form, but the main intention here is to enjoy composing with colour and texture.

You will start by learning how to set up a frame for tapestry weaving. Ashort paper collage exercise, using mark-making to produce contrasting strips, will give you an impressionistic starting point for your weaving. You will then translate this into tapestry using a variety of yarns, creating a surface composed of contrasting textures and colours as a sequential composition. This process is designed to be intuitive and spontaneous, allowing you to explore the technique through making. As you progress, geometric and linear patterns will begin to emerge. Techniques for blending and shape-making will be introduced. The aim will be to create two strips of weaving over the workshop days.

During the course there will be a talk/slide show about the techniques on offer with examples of relevant artists and contextual background.
